Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 3) — The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) cracked the whip on several of its players Wednesday for participating in unsanctioned games recently, one of which became viral online due to an on-court brawl.
Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon, Beau Belga of Rain or Shine, and JR Quiñahan of NLEX drew the stiffest penalties among the 10 players involved.
Jalalon was ordered to pay a ₱100,000 fine for his second offense. This is on top of the fine and suspension dealt by his ballclub.
Meanwhile, Belga and Quiñahan were hit with a ₱70,000 fine each for playing in an exhibition game in Cebu without the approval of the PBA and their respective mother teams, and for their roles in a scuffle in the match.
Rey Nambatac and Jhonard Clarito of Rain or Shine, San Miguel’s Vic Manuel and Allyn Bulanadi, Alec Stockton and Barkley Ebona of Converge, and NorthPort’s Arwind Santos were also fined ₱50,000 each.
