Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 29) — A Filipino and two Chinese nationals died after two foreign-flagged vessels collided in waters off Corregidor Island on Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.
The collision involved a dredger, MV Hong Hai 189, which originated from Botolan in Zambales, and a chemical and oil product tanker, MV Petite Souer, which came from Mariveles, Bataan.
The PCG said the Filipino who died was a safety officer onboard MV Hong Hai 189. It added that out of the 20 crew members of the ship, 15 were rescued, while two other Chinese nationals remain missing.
Of the 15 rescued, four were Filipinos, according to the PCG.
Meanwhile, all 21 crew members of MV Petite Soeur were reported to be in good physical condition.
The PCG deployed its BRP Capones to the area after it was informed that MV Hong Hai 189 capsized.
The Philippine Navy sent its Naval Special Operations Unit, a boat attack craft, and a Cessna aircraft to assist in the search and rescue operations.
