Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 27) — Authorities have confiscated some ₱6.8 million worth of marijuana in Baguio City and destroyed over ₱4 billion worth of illegal drugs, controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) previously seized in operations conducted nationwide.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said PDEA Bulacan agents and Baguio City police recovered on Wednesday around 57 kilos of marijuana from two suspects.
It said this was a follow-up operation conducted along Kenon Road, Barangay Camp 7 after an April 12 drug bust which resulted in the seizure of 15 kilos of marijuana worth ₱1.7 million.
Cases for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the arrested suspects, the agency said.
On Thursday, the PDEA also incinerated dangerous drugs and CPECs valued at ₱4.1 billion which were confiscated during various operations by law enforcement agencies.
The thermal decomposition of the 700-kilogram drug stockpile took place at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. in Trece Martires City, Cavite.
Under the law, the PDEA is tasked to oversee the destruction of all seized illegal drugs to ensure these do not return to the streets.
