Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 21) — Eighty-five passengers, including five infants, were rescued from a distressed boat in waters off Maigo Point, Lanao del Norte Thursday evening, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Friday.
At around 6 p.m., the PCG said MV Filipinas Cebu ran aground en route to Ozamiz City, Misamis Oriental.
In a statement, the agency said it has deployed its search and rescue team with the marine environmental protection unit to conduct an oil spill assessment.
Traces of oil were not detected, according to the PCG, but “oil spill booms” were placed in the area as a precautionary measure.
