Socmed posts about string of robberies in QC restos are fake news – NCRPO

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 8) – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has shut down claims on social media that a string of robberies occurred in three Quezon City restaurants.

A chain message has made rounds on social media alleging that armed men robbed three different establishments – a Japanese restaurant, a coffee shop, and a Chinese eatery. It did not specify the dates the alleged incidents took place.

“We immediately investigated and validated the said information. As a result of our investigation, we categorically state that these alleged incidents are false and or misleading,” the NCRPO said Saturday.

It clarified that one of the supposed robberies actually did happen but a few years ago.

“The alleged incident that transpired at a certain Japanese restaurant happened more or less than four years ago, and since then, the establishment has already put to place improved security protocols to protect their business, with no untoward incident reported to date,” it said.

Meanwhile, the alleged incidents “involving the known coffee shop and the Chinese restaurant are both found to be baseless and untrue,” the NCRPO added.

It urged the public and social media users to first verify information they come across before sharing it with others so as not to cause panic.
