Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 7) — Four active police officers from the Muntinlupa City Police have been detained after allegedly robbing a house of at least ₱400,000 in Soldiers Hills Village, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported.
The SPD identified the suspects who are in restricted quarters as Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel Leoren Elomina Javier, Cris Callie Sulit Cruz, Jenniel Sumawang Calica and Pat Jon Louie Esparagoza Peña.
According to its report, one of the victims, identified as businesswoman Baby Gan Lim, was in bed on Tuesday when she heard the suspects enter her house through a sliding window.
The suspects were allegedly looking for her husband, Dario Españo Cedro, and threatened to arrest her if he did not show up. Lim was then ordered to call her husband home to speak with the suspects.
While waiting for the husband, the police report said one of the suspects took Lim’s phone and forced her to transfer ₱50,000 from her mobile wallet app. The suspects then searched the house and took ₱ 380,000 from Lim’s travel bag and ₱9,000 from her backpack.
When the victim’s husband arrived, the officers took his ATM card and forced him to withdraw all the money in the account.
With the ATMs in the vicinity offline, the suspects threatened to arrest the couple again if they will not send ₱ 50,000 to the suspects’ mobile wallet. Before leaving, one of the suspects also took a motorcycle helmet and ₱8,000 cash inside the victim’s motorcycle compartment.
The involved cops are all restricted from leaving the police station while the robbery extortion complaint against them is pending.
“The SPD does not condone wrongdoings of our police personnel, appropriate criminal and administrative charges shall be filed against the involved personnel as warranted by evidence or testimonies,” District Director John Brion Kraft said.
