Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 29) — De La Salle University has secured the commitment of a prized recruit from one of its high school programs.
Rhyle Melencio, a member of the UAAP Season 85 Boys Basketball Mythical Team, will be suiting up for La Salle in the seniors division.
The 19-year-old forward played for De La Salle Zobel, where he averaged 17.4 points and 14.9 rebounds last season.
“When I committed with La Salle, I got goosebumps because I could not believe that my dream since I was a child is now a reality. I thank coach Topex (Robinson) for helping me achieve my dream,” Melencio said.
La Salle also got the commitment of Ethan Alian from La Salle Greenhills.
The 18-year-old Alian is a 6-foot-1 point guard. He averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.3 assists for La Salle Greenhills. He helped the school reach the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball finals.
“For me, it’s a dream come true because I’ve been a Lasallian since I was in Grade 6,” Alian said.
La Salle also landed a promising recruit in Vhoris Marasigan.
The 6-foot-2 Marasigan saw action in the 2023 NBTC National Finals earlier this month. He averaged 16.7 points, three rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
The three cagers will join La Salle mainstays Evan Nelle, Kevin Quiambao, and Mark Nonoy in UAAP Season 86 slated to happen later this year.
The Green Archers missed the Final Four in UAAP Season 85 with a 7-7 win-loss record after bowing to Adamson University in a playoff match for the No. 4 spot.
