Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 28) — Sung-and-rapped-through musical “Hamilton” will be coming to the Philippines in September at The Theatre at Solaire, actor-playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda announced Tuesday.
“We’ve had so many incredible Filipino company members part of the Hamilton pamilyaI (family) all over the world and now we get to bring the show to your beautiful country very soon,” he said.
The multi-awarded musical’s staging in Manila marks its Asia premiere. It will be under GMG Production while the cast has yet to be announced.
Written by Miranda, ‘Hamilton’ narrates the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of North America’s foremost founding fathers. The play is also based on the 2004 book of Ron Chernow ‘Alexander Hamilton.’
‘Hamilton’ originally premiered in 2015 with Miranda portraying the protagonist. In 2017, Filipino Rachelle Ann Go debuted as Eliza or Elizabeth Schuyler, Hamilton’s wife, in the West End Production of the play.
Other Filipino artists that took part in the production included Marc dela Cruz, Karla Puno Garcia, Christina Glur, and Christine Allado.
Songs from ‘Hamilton include “My Shot,” “The Schuyler Sister,” ‘Wait For It,” and “Non-Stop.”
In 2016, the musical took home 11 Tony awards.
