Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 11) — Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo took the gold in the parallel bars event in the Baku, Azerbaijan leg of the FIG Artistic Gymnastic World Cup Series on Saturday.
Yulo got 15.4 points for his performance, denying Ukraine’s Illia Kovtun a third consecutive gold in the apparatus in this year’s World Cup Series.
Kovtun settled for second place with a score of 15.366, while France’s Cameron-Lie Bernard finished third with 14.6.
The Filipino athlete previously bagged bronze and silver in the parallel bars event in Cottbus and Doha stages, respectively.
In this Baku phase, Yulo failed to get to the finals for his pet event floor exercise.
He also placed 7th in the still rings final — tallying just 14.166 for his performance.
The 23-year-old gymnast is set to fight for the podium in the vault final on Sunday.
