Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 10)— President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is pushing for “positive reforms” in the country’s electoral processes and called for stakeholders’ coordination to ensure fair conduct of the polls.

Marcos made the comment during the 2023 National Election Summit on Friday — where he also advised the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to boost preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to be held in October this year.

“Now that we use modern technologies to advance and make our election system more reliable, I am sure that we can implement positive reforms and make election result transmission faster and maintain its accuracy,” Marcos said during the event held in Pasay City.

“I call for the active cooperation of stakeholders, experts, and civil society organizations to ensure free, fair, credible elections in our country, in strong partnership with an enlightened and informed citizenry,” he added.

Among the suggestions the chief executive floated include recalibrating the capacity of teachers as electoral board members, as well as integrating voter education in curriculum of schools. He did not elaborate.

Meanwhile, Marcos also encouraged the Filipino youth to “form and cast an informed vote” ahead of the polls.

“We likewise promote and encourage them to [d]iscerningly choose the leaders of our society,” he said.
