Marcos visits wake of slain Negros Oriental governor, vows assistance

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 8) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally condoled with the family of slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo during his visit to the wake on Wednesday, as he vowed justice and assistance for victims of the brazen attack.

[Translation: We just asked what we can do to help the victims, as well as those in the hospital. I just told them that they can expect justice to be served for their province, which has been in a mess.]

The chief executive also spoke to Degamo’s wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo.

The governor was gunned down inside his residential compound in Brgy. San Isidro Saturday morning – a case that has sparked calls for justice among colleagues and other government officials.

Several of his companions were also killed and injured.
