Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 2) — The Metro Manila Council (MMC) on Thursday said the dry run for the single ticketing system for traffic violations in the National Capital Region will start in the first or second week of April.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando Artes said eight of the 17 Metro Manila local government units (LGUs) have already passed ordinances upholding the new Metro Manila Traffic Code, which will be the basis for the single ticketing system.
Artes said some LGUs are just requiring additional documents like memoranda of agreement between the local government and Land Transportation Office on interconnectivity and data privacy.
The MMDA chairman clarified that all LGUs are on board with this project despite Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua’s call to abolish the MMDA.
Meanwhile, MMC Chairperson and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the council also approved the MMDA’s supplemental budget that will be used to buy IT hardware and handheld devices.
“Malaking bagay po na ang MMDA ay magbibigay po sa atin ng hand-held devices sapagkat ang devices na ito ang magbibigay daan upang ang datos ng drivers, lisensya mula po sa LTO ay magkakaroon kami ng access, or vice versa,” Zamora said.
“Pwede ring magbayad ng multa gamit ang hand-held devices na ito,” he added.
