Adamson confirms death of missing student

Authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the 24-year-old chemical engineering student’s death.

The university said it has launched its own investigation on the matter.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 28) — Adamson University has confirmed the death of one of its students, John Matthew Salilig, who was reported missing on Feb. 18.

“It is with great sorrow that we confirm the untimely passing of one of our students last Feb. 18, 2023 after the report of his disappearance,” the university said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We are one with his family and friends in grieving this unexpected and unfortunate loss,” it added.

But the Laguna Provincial Police Office said the victim attended the initiation rites of the Tau Gamma Phi (Triskilion) fraternity in Biñan on the day he went missing.

The police report said Salilig’s body was exhumed from a lot in Brgy. Malagasang 1-G in Imus City, Cavite on Tuesday.

The local police said the persons of interest include a 21-year-old student and 14 unidentified male suspects.

The university said it has launched its own investigation on the matter.
