National Museum reminds visitors: Treat art, specimens with utmost care, respect

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 23) — The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) reiterated its reminder of proper decorum to visitors, after a viral video on Facebook showed two guests filming a dance while their phone was placed on an artwork display.

“The NMP would like to urge all visitors and museum-goers to adhere to our Visitor Guidelines, and treat works of art and specimens on display with utmost care and respect, especially during National Arts Month,” the museum said in a Twitter post.

The video that was posted on Feb. 15 has reached over 1.1 million views. It caught the visitors filming a dance at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

“We would also like to encourage all guests to serve as stewards of our collections and do their part in the protection, preservation, and dissemination of the legacy of the Filipino people,” the NMP said.

Presidential Proclamation 683 of 1991 declared February as National Arts Month as “the disciplines of theatre, dance, music, visual arts, architecture, literature, media arts, and film need to be preserved, enriched, and evolved in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression.”
