
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 17) — Dante Rivero will play Padre Mariano Gomez, Cedrick Juan will be Padre José Burgos and Enchong Dee will act as Padre Jacinto Zamora in the upcoming historical film “GomBurZa,” Jesuit Communications (JesCom) announced Thursday.
JesCom, media unit of Catholic order Society of Jesus, said the film will be based on the story of three Catholic priests killed in 1872 on charges of subversion.
Piolo Pascual will also play the role of Padre Pedro Pelaez, the Filipino clergy leader who was a mentor of Padre José Burgos.
The cast includes Epi Quizon, Jaime Fabregas, Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, Khalil Ramos, Elijah Canlas, Neil Ryan Sese, Paolo O’Hara, Tommy Alejandrino, Gerry Kaimo, Dylan Tay Talon, Jomari Angeles and Bon Lentejas.
“After a long search for the right actors, we can now finally breathe,” “GomBurZa” producer Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin said during the film’s screen test and script reading.
“We are very confident that they will deliver and fulfil their roles to the best of their ability,’ she added
Pepe Diokno, Venice International Film Festival Orrizonti Prize winner, will be directing the film from a screenplay by Rody Vera.
Today, Feb. 17, marks the beginning of production of the film, which coincides with the 151st death anniversary of the three martyrs, JesCom said.
