Marcos touts ‘productive’ trip as Japan visit ends

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 11) —President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has assured Filipinos that the deals finalized during his “productive” Japan trip will immediately bear fruit for the Philippines.

In a video posted on his social media page on Saturday, Marcos underscored the importance of “setting down the blueprint” for Philippine-Japan ties, especially as the country continues to rebound from the COVID-19 crisis.

“These agreements have cut across the whole gamut,” Marcos said as he summarized the highlights of his latest international travel.

“And I think that we will be able to feel the effects of these discussions, of these agreements very very soon, very rapidly, back home,” he added.

The chief executive, in particular, cited the agreements on a range of fields that include agriculture, digitalization, energy, education, and tourism.

During his working trip to Tokyo, Marcos’ administration inked dozens of investment deals with the Japanese government.

The Philippines also secured billions worth of investment pledges from various Japanese firms — which the Department of Trade and Industry pegged to reach around $10 billion thus far.
