Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 23) — The Department of Health recorded 1,891 new COVID-19 cases during the week of Jan. 16 to 21, down 35% from the previous week.
The latest tally brings the daily average number of cases to 270, DOH reported on Monday in its weekly bulletin.
Of the new cases, DOH said four patients were in severe and critical condition.
A total of 104 deaths due to COVID-19 were also verified, including seven that occurred on Jan. 9 to 22.
According to the agency, 16.1% of the 2,229 intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 were occupied.
DOH also said 94.52% or 73 million individuals of the target population are vaccinated against COVID-19, while 21 million people received their booster shots.
In a Twitter post, OCTA Research fellow Guido David said the country’s positivity rate decreased from 3.7% to 2.4% as of Jan 21. Positivity rate refers to the percentage of all COVID-19 tests that are positive on a given period.
On Jan. 22, David’s post showed that Metro Manila logged the most number of COVID-19 cases with 104, followed by Western Visayas and Calabarzon with 23 cases and Davao Region with 22 cases.
NCR positivity rate decreased from 3.7% to 2.4% as of Jan 21, 2023. No province in Luzon had an increase in positivity rate. Many provinces have LOW positivity rate (less than 5%). #COVID19 #covid @dzbb @DZAR1026 @dzrhnews @News5PH @ali_sotto @allangatus pic.twitter.com/8vvmuBrsb9
