Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 21) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday assured Filipino voters it will continue to improve data security, stressing that the recent dismissal of its data privacy violations was “not enough” to show its commitment.
“Subalit hindi po sapat na kami po ay napatunayang walang kasalanan o absuwelto sa kasong gano’n,” said Comelec Chairman George Garcia, referring to the National Privacy Commission’s ruling.

“Dapat po obligasyon ng Comelec na patuloy na paigtingin yun pong aming seguridad lalong-lalo na when it comes to data privacy,” the poll chief told reporters.

Garcia said Comelec will protect election data — with more than a million already registered for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls in October.
