Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 19) — Parokya ni Edgar guitarist Gab Chee Kee is now in the Intensive Care Unit due to pneumonia, a complication brought on by lymphoma, vocalist Chito Miranda said Wednesday.
In a Facebook post, Miranda said Chee Kee was diagnosed with lymphoma in late 2022 and has been undergoing chemotherapy.
“Unfortunately, due to complications brought about by his condition, he is now battling pneumonia and was recently transferred in the ICU and has been intubated for more than a week already,” Miranda said.
“Gab needs to undergo treatment, and won’t be able to play until he makes a full recovery,” he added.
Miranda said Chee Kee’s condition was initially not supposed to be disclosed, but they convinced the guitarist to share his condition in order to receive financial help.
Miranda also announced that his band and other musicians will be doing a series of fundraising gigs to help Gab with his medical expenses.
Artists including Ebe Dancel, Kamikazee, Gloc9, Shanti Dope, Flow G, Gracenote, December Ave, POT, Moonstar and Moira Moira will join the fundraising gig.
Miranda also posted details should anyone want to extend financial assistance to Chee Kee.
