Over 800 devotees need medical help during Black Nazarene feast — PRC

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 9) — A total of 807 devotees needed medical help during the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Monday, according to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

As of 2 a.m. Tuesday, 76 people were reported to have cases of abrasion, chest pain, contusion, laceration, abdominal pain, nausea, sprain, and dizziness.

Meanwhile, 719 devotees underwent blood pressure tests while two people were provided psychological first aid.

The PRC Emergency Medical Unit also transported one patient who experienced chest pain and breathing problems to the Philippine General Hospital for further medical assessment.

Earlier, the PRC announced that four first aid stations with over 300 volunteers would be available during the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene from Jan. 7 to 9.

According to the Manila Police District, the celebration was “very peaceful and orderly” as of Monday morning.

Hoping tuloy-tuloy po ito [peaceful and orderly celebration] for the whole day as magtuloy-tuloy po ang hourly masses today,” the MPD said in a statement.

[Translation: We hope that the peaceful and orderly celebration will continue for the rest of the day as the hourly masses continue today.]
