
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 8) – A magnitude 5 earthquake rocked Baganga Municipality in Davao Oriental on Sunday morning.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the earthquake struck 12 kilometers South of Baganga at 7 a.m. It had a depth of 129 kilometers and was of tectonic origin, meaning there was movement in the Earth’s crust.
Phivolcs recorded the following instrumental intensities:
Intensity II (slightly felt): Nabunturan, Davao De Oro.
Intensity I (“scarcely perceptible” shaking): Malapatan and Alabel, Sarangani; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; and General Santos City, South Cotabato.
The agency also said aftershocks are expected.
