Globe hits 3.9M SIM registrations in 3 days; DITO at over 800,000

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 30) — Despite initial glitches, service providers Globe Telecom and DITO reported large numbers of users who have successfully registered their SIM cards in the past three days.

Globe logged 3.9 million registrants, while DITO tallied 846,076 as of Friday morning. Other telco giant SMART hit 1.01 million registered subscribers on Dec. 28.

“We are encouraged by the numbers we see as we go into the New Year. It’s a great way to start 2023, as millions of our customers abide by the law and log on to our portal to register,” Globe Chief Commercial Officer Issa Guevarra-Cabreira said in a statement.

Globe also assured the public of a more stable registration portal after server issues welcomed users when registrations opened.

“After a 72-hour observation period, Globe’s SIM registration portal is now fully optimized and stable. Customers may continue to plan and schedule their registration,” Globe said.

Subscribers who wanted to register their SIMs early were greeted by server issues despite the companies’ assurance they are ready to accommodate the deluge of registrants.

Both Globe and SMART registration links showed a “bad gateway” prompt on Tuesday, the first day of the mandatory SIM registration.

The telco giants are reminding subscribers that the deadline for registration is on April 26 next year.
