Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 28) — UAAP basketball commissioner Richard “Dickie” Bachmann is the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
Office of the Press Secretary officer-in-charge Cheloy Garafil confirmed on Wednesday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Bachmann to replace Jose Emmanuel “Noli” Eala, who held the post for four months.
Meanwhile, Eala said his brief stint in the PSC gave him an opportunity to serve a field close to his heart.
Malacañang has yet to release other details regarding the appointment.
Bachmann also previously worked as a team governor for the Alaska Aces in the Philippine Basketball Association.
He was a member of the champion De La Salle University Green Archers team in the ‘80s.
He is the son of the late basketball star Kurt Bachmann, who represented the Philippines in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
“With all humility, I can say that I gave dignity and respect to the position of Chairman and worked tirelessly for Philippines Sports,” he said in his Instagram post.
The former chairperson also thanked Marcos and sports leaders, adding he fully respected the decision.
“As I leave, I am at peace knowing that in the months I served, I cared for all our athletes and Philippine Sports like no other,” he said.
