Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 26) — Sen. Grace Poe on Dec. 26 reminded telecommunication companies and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to ensure a smooth process of enrolling Subscriber Identity Module (sim) for seniors, as the mandatory SIM registration will begin tomorrow, Dec. 27.

“The SIM registration should be as easy as texting or sending a message,” Poe said in a statement.
“Telcos should have portals for registration that are user-friendly and secure to encourage mobile users to enlist without hassle and interruption of services,” she added.
Telecommunication companies were also urged to provide assistance to persons with disabilities, minors, pregnant, and those without access to the internet.
Last Dec. 2, DITO Telecommunity announced that existing subscribers may register through the DITO app while new subscribers will receive a link after the SIM card insertion.
Meanwhile, Globe Telecommunications on Dec. 24 assured customers that their information are “already securely included” in their platform.
“Should we need you to confirm and/or complete your data, we will get in touch with you at a later time,” Globe said in a Facebook post.
Smart Communications Inc. on Dec. 23 also warned SIM users against fake links for SIM registration.
“[P]lease be aware of text messages that contain fake URLs. Legitimate messages will come from SMART. Report these links to: cybersecurityincidents@smart.com.ph,” Smart said.
