DA: No rice price hike

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 22) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has denied reports about an impending rice price hike, especially this month.

Deputy Spokesperson Rex Estoperez said the government is not seeing any increase in rice prices since local producers expect to have a peak harvest by January.

This comes as Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) chairman Rosendo So said prices of rice might go up by ₱2 per kilogram.

Currently, the price of regular milled rice is ₱38 per kilogran, while well-milled rice retails for ₱41 per kg and ₱50 per kg for special rice.

CNN Philippines’ Correspondent Currie Cator contributed to this report.
