PH may record 1,200 new COVID-19 cases on Dec.18 — OCTA

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 18) – The country could record as high as 1,200 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the OCTA Research Group said.

“Expecting 1000-1200 new cases tomorrow (Sunday)” OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David tweeted Saturday night, citing data from the Department of Health’s latest COVID-19 case bulletin.

The DOH logged 1,196 new COVID-19 cases, 39 deaths, 1,846 recoveries, 18,262 active cases, and a 12.5% nationwide positivity rate on Saturday.

A total of 471 or 39.4% of the 1,196 new cases were recorded in the National Capital Region. Trailing behind the NCR were Cavite with 75 new infections, Rizal with 66, Laguna with 53, and Bulacan with 52.

The DOH previously forecasted that daily cases could reach 3,172 at the most in December due to the holiday rush.

This forecast is an increase over the DOH’s previous projection of 1,140 to 2,294 cases a day over the holidays.
