Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 13) — The Philippines wants to have a four-year strategic partnership with Belgium in various areas, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.
Marcos is expected to meet with Belgium’s King Philippe as the president will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union (ASEAN-EU) Commemorative Summit from Dec. 12 to 14.
“It will also be an opportunity to convey to the King that the Philippines intends to pursue a strategic partnership in various fields, and to this end, forward to signing a Philippines-Belgium Joint Plan of Action for 2023 to 2027 that could further enhance bilateral cooperation, allow our two countries to discuss regional and global issues of mutual concern,” Marcos said during his meeting with the Filipino community in Brussels.
He also said the Filipino community has contributed to the strong relationship of the two countries, which is commemorating 76 years of bilateral relationship this year.
“Our relations remained strong and vibrant based on shared values, common interests, and the good reputation that Filipinos have built, not only here in Europe but all over the world,” he added.
Marcos will also meet with the leaders of EU. In his pre-departure speech for the ASEAN-EU Summit, the president said he will push for the country’s priorities, particularly post-pandemic recovery, trade, maritime cooperation, and climate action.
