Romualdez says House to pass BBM initial priority bills before year-end

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 5) — The House of Representatives will pass most, if not all, of the initial priority bills identified by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before sessions adjourn on December 15, Speaker Martin Romualdez said Monday.

“I’ve also reported to the President and I’m also glad to know that he has not taken for granted the fact that most, if not all, of his initial priority legislation would’ve been passed in the House before we adjourn this year,” Romualdez said during the House flag raising ceremony.

He hailed the bicameral conference committee’s approval on Monday of the reconciled report on the proposed ₱5.268 trillion national budget for 2023.

Romualdez said he informed Marcos, his cousin, of the House’s efficiency in tackling his legislative priorities when they met in Malacañang on Sunday.

“The most important, the biggest piece of legislation—the national budget for 2023– we’re about to conclude. Pinakamalaking (The biggest) budget has just been passed, in effect, in the least amount of days,” he added.

While Romualdez didn’t enumerate the priority legislation up for approval in the House until next week, some of the pending important bills identified by Marcos in his first State of the Nation Address include the proposed National Government Rightsizing Program (NGRP), the third package of the tax reform law focusing on real property valuation reform, the e-government act, e-commerce law, and the creation of the Virology Institute of the Philippines.
