This was the seat that Jesus “Boying” Remulla vacated when President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. appointed him as justice secretary. Remulla confirmed that he had accepted the Cabinet post on May 23.

Last July, the House of Representatives carried a motion which designated Speaker Martin Romualdez as the caretaker of the vacant post in Cavite.

Meanwhile, the Comelec has also begun accepting certificates of candidacy (COCs) starting Monday, Dec. 5, up until Tuesday, Dec. 6, for those looking to run for the position.

Cavite’s 7th legislative district was formed in July 2009 under Republic Act (RA) 9727, after the province was reapportioned from three to seven districts.

Prior to his appointment as secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Remulla represented Cavite’s 7th district from 2010 to 2013 in the 15th Congress, and then again from 2019 to 2022 in the 18th Congress.

Abraham Tolentino represented the post consecutively from 2013 in the 16th Congress until 2019 in the 17th Congress.
