Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) will deploy drones over the city’s columbaries, cemeteries, and crowded places for its anti-crime operations as Filipinos mark All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day this year.
In a statement, QCPD chief Nicolas Torre said the drones will send live feeds to their command center. They will be used to track down criminals, especially this holiday season.
“With that view in the sky, [the police] can easily monitor and estimate the number of crowds, the traffic situation and the number of deployed personnel and they can follow the activities on the ground,” Torre said.
A total of 20 drones were deployed in five cemeteries during the launch of the QCPD’s six-team drone squadron on Wednesday.
Authorities have been preparing for the expected high volume of Filipinos in terminals and memorial parks following the easing of travel restrictions and the reopening of cemeteries for Undas.
