
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 23) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck off the shore of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental Sunday morning, state seismologists said.
In an earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred at 10:15 a.m., with a depth of 259 kilometers. It was tectonic in origin, meaning there was movement in the Earth’s crust.
Phivolcs initially reported a magnitude 5.6 quake.
The agency did not report intensities. It said it is not expecting any damage and aftershocks.
