Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 6) — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is now evaluating the safety and efficacy of administering COVID-19 vaccine to children as young as six months old, the former head of the country’s vaccine expert panel said on Thursday.

“Meron na pong application at ‘yan po ay sinusuri na ng ating mga eksperto kung makakabuti ‘yan. Nasa FDA na po,” Dr. Nina Gloriani, who continues to evaluate vaccines for the FDA as an independent expert, said during a public briefing.

Gloriani told CNN Philippines that only Moderna has so far submitted an application for emergency use authorization of its vaccine for the age group.

The country currently only allows anti-coronavirus shots to be administered to children at least 5 years old.

On Wednesday, the health ministry of Japan approved the Pfizer shot for kids six months old to four years old, Japanese media reported.
