In a statement, Angeles said she tendered her resignation this morning, which will be “effective end of business hours.”
She did not provide further details.
Malacañang officials have yet to announce who will replace her.
“We’re still in the process of helping the office address her resignation today. So ‘yun na muna ang present concern [So that’s our present concern],” Deputy Executive Secretary Hubert Guevarra told reporters, adding that no names are being floated at the moment to replace Cruz-Angeles.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, for his part, noted there will be a selection process for the vacant post.
Earlier in the day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reappointed some of his Cabinet members who were bypassed by the Commission on Appointments. Angeles was among the officials who were not on the list and not present during the ceremony.
Aside from the press secretary, Commission on Audit chairman Jose Calida has also resigned, according to Bersamin.
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 4) — Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced on Tuesday that she has stepped down from her post due to health reasons.
