Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 17) — Fans of the legendary Original Pilipino Music (OPM) band Eraserheads are clamoring for a reunion after cryptic posts from its members.
Frontman Ely Buendia, drummer Raymund Marasigan, bassist Buddy Zabala, and guitarist Marcus Adoro each posted on their Instagram accounts a logo of the band on Saturday.
Zabala and Adoro captioned their posts with one of the lines from their song “With A Smile.”
Meanwhile, both Buendia and Marasigan did not add any caption to their posts, fueling netizens’ curiosity even more.
Fans — celebrities included — filled the posts’ comments section with excitement, as well as questions and requests for a comeback, with many hoping the reunion will actually happen.
Formed in 1989, the Eraserheads popularized songs that even the new generation knew by heart, including Ang Huling El Bimbo, Alapaap, Pare Ko, Overdrive, and Magasin, to name a few.
They disbanded in 2002 when Buendia left. However, in 2009, they held a reunion concert dubbed “The Final Set.”
In September last year, Buendia gamely answered a question from a Twitter follower if there’s still a chance for an Eraserheads reunion.
“Pag tumakbo si Leni [If Leni runs],” he said, referring to former vice president Leni Robredo, who eventually ran but lost in the May presidential elections.
As of publishing, there’s still no official announcement from the band regarding the meaning of the posts.
