Motorcycle taxi ride-hailing services to provide MMDA with emergency responders

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 16) — Motorcycle taxi ride-hailing services have agreed to provide the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) with emergency responders in situations like road traffic accidents within the metro.

The MMDA, Angkas, and JoyRide PH signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday at the MMDA headquarters for the collaboration.

“Even though they are competitors, Angkas and Joyride have extended their services by providing MERs (motorcycle emergency responders) at no cost to the MMDA as part of their corporate social responsibility,” Carlo Dimayuga III, the agency’s acting chairman, said in a statement.

MERs are equipped with first-aid kits, equipment, as well as supplies needed in responding to emergencies, the MMDA said.

“They will only respond to road traffic accidents/incidents on the seven major thoroughfares of Metro Manila such as EDSA, C5, Commonwealth, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, Osmeña Highway, and Marcos Highway,” it added.

Both motorcycle taxi ride-hailing services will provide 25 riders each who will be trained by the MMDA’s public safety division and road emergency group, in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross and the Health department.
