PH records 901 additional cases of Omicron subvariants

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 13) — The country has recorded 901 additional cases of the Omicron subvariants, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.

Broken down, the DOH said 839 are new cases of BA.5; 11 are BA.4; one each of BA.2.12.1 and BA.2.75; while 49 are under other sublineages.

The latest data is based on sequencing results as of Sept. 9-12, it noted. The specimens were collected from July 15 to Sept. 3, it added.

The National Capital Region (NCR) accounted for most of the fresh cases with 216, followed by Western Visayas with 135, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with 119.

DOH reported that most of the BA.5 cases came from NCR (182), followed by Western Visayas (135), and CAR (116).

For BA.4, seven cases were from SOCCSKSARGEN, two from Bicol Region, and one each from NCR and CALABARZON.

The lone BA.2.12.1 case was a returning overseas Filipino, while the case of BA.2.75 came from NCR.

Currently, infections in Mindanao are on a plateau, while the remaining areas are on a slow downward trend, DOH said.

Latest government data showed that the country has recorded more than 3.9 million COVID-19 cases, of which over 24,000 are currently ill patients.

As of Sept. 12, over 72.8 million people have completed their primary COVID-19 doses. Over 18.6 million individuals have received their first booster dose, while more than 2.5 million have received their second booster shot, the department noted.
