Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 8) — Residents in Marikina City are urged to stay indoors after a fire razed a cigarette warehouse in Barangay Nangka early Thursday morning, the local government said.
It said smoke and bad odor remain even if the fire that hit the Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation sub-warehouse has been declared under control.
“Maaaring makasama ito sa kalusugan kaya kung wala namang importanteng gagawin ay pinapayuhan po na manatili na lamang sa loob ng bahay,” its official Facebook page said.
[Translation: It could be harmful to health so just stay home if you don’t have important plans.]
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze began at 2:51 a.m. and second alarm was raised at 2:56 a.m.
The cigarette maker said no one was hurt and all employees are accounted for.
It added that it is cooperating with authorities to determine the cause and extent of damage.
