Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 30)— The chief of police of Ampatuan town in Maguindanao and another personnel were killed in an ambush on Tuesday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the fatalities were Ampatuan police chief PLT Reynaldo Samson and PCpl Salipuden Endab.
Citing initial reports, the PNP said the policemen were in Ampatuan’s Barangay Kapinpilan to serve warrants of arrest when they were attacked by an armed group.
“Their loyalty to their commitment to serve and protect the nation will be remembered,” the PNP said in a statement.
It added that it has launched regionwide pursuit operations against the suspects in the ambush, which also left three other policemen injured.
“We already have the identity of the suspects and our personnel are working double time to bring justice to where it should be,” the PNP also said.
