Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 25) – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is confident that the target of 30.1 million printed national identification (ID) cards and the 19.9 million printable digital ID cards will be met by year-end, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said on Wednesday.

As of August 23, PSA has transferred at least 17.6 million physical National IDs to the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) for delivery.

“PSA is making considerable progress to hit the end-year target of 30.1 million physical PhilID cards, which is 58 percent of the overall target,” Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said.

According to Balisacan, the Bangko Sentral of the Pilipinas’ printing facilities can churn out an average of 103,000 physical cards per day. This is above PSA’s daily target.

The target number of IDs to be issued by the end of 2022 is 50 million.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., in his state of the nation address, ordered the PSA to issue 30 million national IDs by year-end and aim for 92 million by mid-2023.

Marcos said the national ID will ensure “seamless transactions” between citizens and national and local governments.
