Class, work suspensions due to Florita

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 22) — More local government units have ordered the suspension of classes and government work for Tuesday, Aug. 23, due to Tropical Storm Florita.

Belen Fernandez, the mayor of Dagupan in Pangasinan, had likewise released an order canceling all classes and government work in the city for Tuesday due to Florita and high tide forecast.

PAGASA said Florita is expected to make landfall either in Cagayan or Isabela by early Tuesday morning.

Classes in all levels in Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, both in public and private schools, had been called off amid the bad weather caused by the storm, the provincial governors announced in separate Facebook posts on Monday night.

Both provinces also canceled work in government offices, except for those assigned to medical and rescue teams.

Baguio City Mayor Benjie Magalong also suspended classes from preschool to senior high school in both public and private schools.

There will also be no classes in all levels in public and private schools in Camarines Sur until Wednesday, Aug. 24, Gov. Luigi Villafuerte said in an order on Monday.

In its latest bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed more areas under storm alerts.
