Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 19) — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said public school teachers will each receive ₱5,000 more in cash to help them prepare for the coming school year.

The allowance will be given to them next week, the department added, noting that this is separate from schools’ Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE).

May nagsasabi pinangbibili nila ng chalk, hindi po dapat ‘yun kasi that should be part of MOOE ng schools. Ito po ay lalo na sa mga kailangan ng internet connection d’yan po parang additional allowance lang talaga for teachers,” DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said.

Poa added that a total of ₱3.7 billion have been transferred to public schools as additional MOOE to ensure they are well-equipped to implement health protocols, such as buying COVID-19 related items like face masks and alcohol.

“We’re giving them the flexibility to buy whatever they need,” Poa said.
