Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 14) — The weekly COVID-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila decreased from 17.5% as of Aug. 6 to 16.4% as of Aug. 12, an independent monitoring group said Sunday.
“This is the first time in the current wave the weekly positivity rate decreased, and it gives us optimism that cases in the NCR (National Capital Region) may have already peaked,” OCTA Research fellow Guido David said in a tweet.
On Wednesday, David said COVID-19 cases in NCR may peak in the current week as several indicators decline, but noted that “trends need to be consistent for about a week before we can confidently say there is a downward trend.”

The group initially projected a peak in mid-July “but the wave got prolonged for some reason” which may have been caused by the country’s low booster uptake, David said.
The Department of Health reported on Friday that COVID-19 cases in NCR are slightly down, but the region remains under moderate risk classification.
