House elects 18 new committee chairpersons

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 2) — The House of Representatives on Monday elected 18 new committee chairpersons for the 19th Congress.

Manila 5th District Rep. Irwin Tieng was named chairperson of the Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries, while Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez will head the Committee on Constitutional Amendments.

Cebu 6th District Rep. Emmarie Ouano-Dizon was elected chairperson of the Committee on Ecology, while Bukidnon 2nd District Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores will sit as head of the Committee on Government Reorganization.

Kalinga lone district Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang will be the chairperson of the Committee on Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples, while Lanao del Sur 2nd District Rep. Yasser Alonto Balindong will lead the Committee on Mindanao Affairs.

Ilocos Norte 2nd District Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba will take charge of the Committee on North Luzon Growth Quadrangle, while Manila 4th District Rep. Edward Maceda was chosen to oversee the Committee on Revision of Laws.

Aklan 1st District Rep. Carlito Marquez is the new chairperson of the Committee on Science and Technology, while Mountain Province lone district Rep. Maximo Dalog will head the Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms.

Romblon lone district Rep. Eleandro Jesus Madrona was chosen as the new Committee on Tourism chairperson, while Bataan 1st District Rep. Geraldine Roman will take the lead in the Committee on Women and Gender Equality.

Isabela 5th District Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III will head the Committee on Youth and Sports Development, while Davao Occidental lone district Rep. Claude Bautista was elected to chair the Committee on Flagship Programs and Projects.

Kusug Tausug Party-list Rep. Shernee Tan-Tambut got the chairmanship of the Committee on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, as Apayao lone district Rep. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang was selected to take charge of the Committee on Reforestation.

Senior Citizens Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes was named chairperson of the Committee on Senior Citizens, and Patrol Party-list Rep. Jorge Bustos was chosen to head the Committee on Strategic Intelligence.

The solons previously elected 11 committee chairpersons after they selected Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez as the new Speaker last week.

The House has yet to choose new heads for the remaining 51 standing and special committees and members of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal and Commission on Appointments.
