US Secretary of State to meet with Marcos in PH on Aug. 6

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 29) – United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to the Philippines on Aug. 6, the US State Department announced in a statement on Friday.

Blinken will meet with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo to discuss efforts to strengthen the alliance between Manila and Washington, “including through increased cooperation on energy, trade, and investment.”

The Philippines is one of Blinken’s stops in his 10-day visit to Southeast Asia and Africa.

The top US diplomat will attend several summits from Aug. 3 to 5 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

After his Manila trip, Blinken will be in South Africa on Aug. 7 to 9, the Democratic Republic of Congo on Aug. 9 to 10, and Rwanda on Aug. 10 to 12.
