Strong Luzon quake damages 164 schools

“There are now 164 schools in 26 divisions with infrastructure damages, from 35 schools on July 27,” DepEd said in a statement on Thursday.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 28)— At least 164 schools were damaged by the strong earthquake that struck Northern Luzon on Wednesday, according to the latest report of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The agency also pegged the reconstruction and rehabilitation cost of the establishments to reach ₱940 million.

The department said it is coordinating with disaster response officials to check on the number of teachers, non-teaching personnel, and students who were affected by the magnitude 7 quake that hit Abra and rocked several other areas in Luzon.
