Marcos visits quake-hit Abra, orders assistance for residents

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 28) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Abra on Thursday morning, a day after a destructive earthquake hit the province and nearby areas.

The President traveled with several Cabinet secretaries to inspect the damage caused by the tremor and oversee the disaster response efforts of national and local officials.

During the meeting where he was briefed on the latest details, Marcos asked officials to ensure the speedy dispatch of assistance, like potable water and food, to those affected.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Abra on Wednesday morning has so far left four people dead and 131 others injured in Luzon.

The government said it is ready to release funds to areas severely affected by the quake.

Meanwhile, his sister Sen. Imee Marcos visited Vigan to check on the historic sites destroyed by the quake.
