
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 23)— EJ Obiena has booked a slot for the men’s pole vault finals at the World Athletics Championships currently taking place in Oregon, USA.
The bemedalled Filipino athlete achieved the feat after clearing 5.75 meters in the qualifiers held on Saturday morning (Philippine time).
A total of 12 pole vaulters advanced to the medal round.
Obiena is the only Filipino and Asian to qualify for the finals, which will take place on Monday morning (Philippine time).
Earlier this month, the country’s pole vault sensation also bagged a gold medal at the Jump and Fly tournament held in Germany.
