Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 22) – Newly-designated ambassadors of the United States and Thailand met on Friday with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. to present their credentials.
Ambassador MaryKay Loss Carlson of the United States and Ambassador Tull Traisorat of Thailand were welcomed by Marcos at Malacañan Palace.
“We look forward to continuing to strengthen our ties in pursuit of common goals and relationship-building between our peoples,” the President wrote in a social media post.
Carlson said Washington hopes to strengthen partnership with Manila through new trade and investments, helping address the climate crisis, and protecting marine and terrestrial resources, among other efforts.
“With the Philippines, our oldest treaty ally in Asia, we have a long history of shared sacrifice and incredibly close people-to-people ties,” Carlson said, as quoted by the US embassy in a press release.
“I look forward to working with the new government and our partners to upgrade and modernize our alliance to face new challenges, expand bilateral trade and investment, and promote democratic freedoms and good governance,” she added.
The US envoy arrived in Manila on Thursday and presented her credentials to the Department of Foreign Affairs that same evening.
She has been with the foreign service since 1985 and was deputy chief of mission in the US embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina prior to her appointment to the Philippines.
Traisorat, meanwhile, was a former consul general of Thailand in Hong Kong. He also previously served as chargé d’affaires in London.
Today, the Ambassadors-designate of the US and Thailand, MaryKay Loss Carlson and Tull Traisorat, presented their credentials.
