Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 21) — The Department of Agriculture – Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) is hoping to secure around ₱4.4 million to fund a rehabilitation plan for hundreds of Banaue farmers affected by the July 7 flash floods and mudslides.
DA-CAR on Thursday said it will submit the proposal to the department’s central office for budget consideration.
“The rehabilitation plan will focus on production support services which will cater to the procurement of assorted vegetable seeds, livestock and poultry with supplements, HDPE hose, and soil ameliorants,” it explained in a statement. HDPE stands for high-density polyethylene.
The regional office said the flash floods, which were triggered by continuous rains, affected 756 farmers in six barangays, namely Poblacion, Taman, Bocos, Poitan, Amganad, and Viewpoint.
Its estimates showed the incident caused ₱10.9-million worth of agricultural damage.
DA-CAR Executive Director Cameron Odsey, however, assured the public that vegetable production in the region remains stable.
The office added that it already distributed last week its available buffer stocks of assorted vegetable seeds worth ₱340,860 as initial assistance.
