
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 19) — The Philippines recorded 65,190 dengue cases from January 1 to July 2, which is 83% higher than a year ago, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.
The Health department said most dengue cases were reported from Central Luzon, Central Visayas, and the Zamboanga Peninsula.
From June 5 to July 2, the country posted 16,324 more dengue cases.
Thirteen of 17 regions have exceeded the epidemic threshold in the past month.
The following areas witnessed an increasing trend during the period:
— Central Luzon
— Mimaropa
— Bicol Region
— Western Visayas
— Zamboanga Peninsula
— Davao Region
— SOCCKSARGEN
— Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
— Cordillera Administrative Region
Meanwhile, the DOH said the number of deaths from Dengue had reached 274.
During an interview with CNN Philippines’ News.PH, infectious disease specialist Dr. Eric Tayag urged the public to practice the 4S strategy amid the rising dengue cases. These four are the following: search and destroy breeding places, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging.
